About Us

Our History

Locally-owned and operated, we have provided quality concrete services since 1994.

1994-2002

The Start of Something Special

For three generations, this family owned business has been producing concrete for commercial and residential needs with the ability to do it all. Our story begins with Rod and Patty Taverner in 1994, as they established Rolling Mix Concrete in Edmonton with just 5 trucks. When PCL gave an order for the Edmonton air-port expansion, RMC Edmonton was able to build a new concrete plant after only 5 years in the business. By offering services to supply, pump, and provide the flat-work for our concrete – and by the dedication, care, and quality of service offered by the Taverner family, RMC became the one-stop shop that it is today.

2002-2009

The Growth Years

The versatility and mobility of the company became a trademark in the early 2000's. By constantly seeking new opportunities for growth, the company expanded into bridge work. Given that this is difficult and technical work, Edmonton was naturally under-serviced in this area. Seizing the opportunity, RMC re-trained its staff, made massive changes to the plant, and revolutionized its batching sequences to produce a brand new, finer quality product never available before. Over a five-year period, RMC worked on more than 90% of all bridge and overpass projects in the Edmonton Area.

2009-2014

Becoming the RMC Group Ltd.

By 2009, RMC had purchased both Alliance Ready Mix and Capital Concrete, to ramp up its production even further. The three companies worked together, consolidated their resources, and adopted two more facilities; thus the RMC Group of Companies Ltd. was born. This led to an increased presence in the commercial market, and an influx of valuable team members. The company had now grown to have an aggregate hauling division, a cement hauling division, three ready mix concrete companies, and a flat work company.

2014-Current

North America’s Most Advanced Ready Mix Concrete Plants

In 2014, the RMC Group of Companies Ltd. decided to rebuild their west-end facility, with sustainability in mind. The $15 million project included a $2 million control room, which could monitor all motors to reduce electricity consumption and ensure safety. It also features on-demand steam jets to thaw ingredients for 200 types of concrete, and vacuums that reuse dust(excess concrete materials) from a 12-cubic-metre mixer. The facility doubled daily production while producing 40% fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Today, the RMC Group of Companies Ltd. runs over 100 ready-mix concrete trucks in Edmonton with over 300 staff. The Group has expanded into the electrical and I.T. field with a new company, Articulate Technologies and Integrations. We are proud to be a third generation family of Canadian concrete producers.
